Good central location, interesting colonial building. Secure parking. Room was a good size, nicely decorated, clean and well made-up.
Mattress needs to be replaced urgently, sagging in the middle! This is really not acceptable. Air conditioning was rather noisy. Bathroom could do with more shelves/surfaces - there is nowhere to place your toiletries, which is irritating.
They say the Imperial is as old as Pietersmaritzberg itself, and it is a lovely property with a heritage feel - sketches / paintings of Prince Napoleon (nephew of the big man) who lived and died in the region, and a lovely old French wall clock in the lobby, and yet the rooms have been refurbished with all modern amenities - thus also providing all modern comforts. It is right in the centre of downtown of this little town and is very convenient especially for business with the Kwazulu Natal administration. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Food could be spruced up a bit.
Nice and good dinner.
Price for breakfast too high compared to room rate abd dinner prices.
Food was fresh and great Friendly staff
Lack of proper communication between the establishment and the marketing agency regarding pricing and what that price entails.
Grand old colonial Hotel lovingly maintained.
General staff very friendly
Terrible mattress, need to change. Reception staff unfriendly
Lack of proper directions to find the hotel - called imperial hotel instead of protea in road to which directed
Staff was too friendly with respect
- The area is too remote & old - Carpet needs to be changed it emits mould odour - Mattress is old & saggy - Room is too small - No cover parking
Very interesting and well restored old building.
My reservation through Booked.net hadn't been received by the hotel when I checked in causing a lengthy confustion. This was a time span of about an hour and a half from when I booked online and arrived at the airport.
No wifi in room
The old style of the hotel.
The sound of the road bassing by all the night. The very poor welcome and service at the restaurant for dinner.
Vreselijk ongezellige bar(ruimte).
